Outstanding effort by all club members yesterday in working together to assist in making the 2018 Surf Life Saving Illawarra BlueScope WIN Community Partners Senior Branch Championships a great success. From 6am til 430pm (carnival finished at 2.30pm) our members worked tirelessly behind the scenes whilst the championships were happening. Surf & weather conditions were great first up but changed mid morning to a howling southerly & got a bit cold later in the afternoon. Too many people to thank individually, from arena set up & pack up, patrol duty, working party during carnival, first aid & bbq personnel, powercraft duties (2 IRB's operational), coaches, team managers & officials....you did the club proud in your efforts
👏
👏 Our surf sports guys & girls were outstanding as well. Thankyou to SLSI for selecting us as host club. To our club sponsors who assisted with the championships Bulli Fruit & Deli & Responder 1 thankyou. To Maree Gilmour at Earth & Soul at Woonona (the officials lunches were sensational) thankyou. Over 80 members & families then enjoyed a few quiet ales & dinner at Bulli Workers Club last night. #slsi #bullislsc #clubmembersstandtall
ASRL Championships - Open Men win title!
Well done to our club's crew that rowed at the 2018 Team Navy Australian Surf Rowers League (ASRL) Championships at Elouera over the weekend (16-18 Feb).
First up our Open Men's crew Bulli Gelcon (Shane Geloven, Dean Roberts, Heather Mercer, Ben Lowe & Fraser Worthington) represented NSW on the Friday & smashed the opposition. They continued on their way with victory on Sunday in the Open Men's Final. Our 2nd Open Men's crew 'Black Sheep' placed 4th in this final, so what a great club effort to have 2 crews in the final against the best in the country.
Our U23 Men's crew 'Basil Spice' were in the final up to their necks but a bit of bad luck didn't help their cause finishing unplaced after leading.
Well done to our 2nd U23 Men & Open Reserve Female crews that both made it through to Sunday racing....well done guys & girls.
Our Vets Men's 240yrs crew 'Bulli Workers' placed 4th in their respective final.
In all a very good day for the maroon & gold caps of BULLI SLSC.

Holly Homlesby & Lucas Ottaway named in NSW Youth Ppathway Team
Good Luck to Holly Homlesby & Lucas Ottaway, both U14 up & coming stars in the club who will be competing for NSW Surf Life Saving for the 1st time in the inaugural Youth Pathway Cup at Sydney’s Freshwater Beach on Australia Day.
The Youth Pathway Cup is Surf Life Saving’s newest representative competition and will allow the brightest prospects at the U14 and 15 level test their skills against the best Australia has to offer.
The NSW Youth Pathway Cup team will go into camp tomorrow in readiness for the the competition to be held on Friday afternoon.
This continues a proud tradition of Bulli SLSC surf sports members representing their state.
* Little piece of history about surf sports within the club in recent years - since 2001 up to now (2018) we have had members each year either represent NSW or AUSTRALIA in surf sports teams, this is a massive achievement a lot of clubs would be proud to say...17 years continuous. It goes without saying the surf sports programs (boats, surf/craft, pool rescue) at the club, talented athletes, along with quality coaches putting in the effort makes all this happen. Well done to all concerned and be proud to wear the maroon & gold cap.
Open Men's crew claim 2018 George Bass Surf Boat Marathon
What an effort...our Open Men's crew remain undefeated in the George Bass Surf Boat Marathon. The guys completely dominated the event winning every single leg ...7 days 190kms of rowing in varying & testing conditions from Bateman's Bay to Eden Harbour.
Congratulations to Paul Jones (sweep) Aron Davis, Adam Barlow, Paul Barlow, Mitchell Roberts, Albert Smeaton, Iszak Lunney, Kyle Mercer & Lachlan O'Grady on a great achievement. Way back in 1979 Bulli won all 7 legs with Russell Jones sweeping them (Paul's dad).
Our Veteran Men's crew of LIncoln Costello (sweep), Chris Mercer, Rod Mercer, Jason Byrne, Nigel Taylor, Craig Lunney, Glenn MacMillan, Chad Caruthers & Peter McLaren battled away for the 7 days and also completed the course. Big effort with the limited training sessions, but these guys love the challenge and also enjoy the social atmosphere.
Behind every George Bass Surf Boat Marathon there is a great support network. First there is the support boats, this year thankyou to Paul Scriberras & Mitch Roberts for the use of their power boats plus drivers Ron Davis & Dean Roberts & crewman over the 7 days namely Garry Roberts, Scott Lunney, Peta Lunney, Heath Mercer, Ashley Rae, Georgia Green, Victoria MacMillan. Moving camp & cleaning up a couple of times during the event, towing trailers, transporting rowers to the start each day, preparing meals, massaging rowers aches & pains (Christine Churchill)...Marcelle Mercer, Michelle Lunney, Rhonda Carruthers plus family & friends that assisted over the 7 day period..heaps of kids to look after. From the rowers thankyou thankyou...without you they couldn't have done it. If we have missed anyone apologies

Holly Holmesby & Lucas Ottaway named in NSW Youth Team
All of the mainland state will field teams of 20 athletes for this revolutionary surf sport contest.
Each squad will consist of 5 male and 5 female athletes with the athletes selected for their versatility on the sand and in the surf.
The NSW competitors have been whittled down from an initial squad of more than 50 names to the final team with last month’s Interbranch Championship providing an opportunity to state their case for selection.
For all of these talented youngsters it will be their first time pulling on the sky blue surf cap, and to compete in a new format is sure to be a thrill.
Surf Sport Manager Rob Pidgeon said it’s an exciting opportunity for this young squad to make their own mark on the sport.
“For several seasons it has been a goal of ours to forge new pathway opportunities for our young athletes to narrow the gap from talented junior to a fully-fledged senior athlete.
“This event has only been made possible through the collaboration of the five states who are all strong supporters, and keen to help make this competition work as a state driven initiative,” said Mr Pidgeon.
“It closely mirrors the senior Interstate Championship format and we’re extremely grateful to Freshwater SLSC and Sydney Northern Beaches Branch for their support in making this possible. The other states will be making the most of the trip by having their teams compete at the Manly Open and Manly Nipper Nats events on the same weekend.”
“There’s plenty of talent in our sport right now which is extremely encouraging, and I would like to wish all the NSW athletes selected the very best of luck for this exhilarating new competition,” he concluded.
The NSW Youth Pathway Cup team will go into camp on Wednesday 24 January 2018 with the competition to be held on Australia Day Afternoon.
