Surf/Craft squad goes well at Terrigal

Well the last round of the East Coast Surf Festival was held at Terrigal last Sunday. Whilst it was pouring rain down in the Illawarra, it was a bright sunny day for half the carnival until the southerly hit.

Our Surf/Craft Coach Big Downie Langthorne drove our gear trailer up and and it was great to see him at his first carnival of the year. Downie has recently changed jobs and is working most Saturdays and has also just moved house...so he has been a busy boy. But those who know him, he is a great coach, a quiet achiever and in his own way got some of our squad to go in more events than they expected. He was seen having quiet whispers to all his charges throughout the day with encouragement and support, talking with parents and assisting with craft handling duties.

Results were pretty outstanding with the squad that attended Terrigal with Hannah Minogue on fire with a 1st in the Open Female Board & Ski, plus a 2nd in the Open Iron-person.

Mitchell Fagerstrom produced a great swim to win the Open Male Surf (won the double as he won Saturday at Warilla) and produced some solid performances in the board & iron-person. He team with Hannah Minogue & Beau Wheeler to win the Open Mixed Taplin Relay & Sean White, Lachlan O'Grady & Jamie Brinkworth our second team placing 5th.

Lachlan O'Grady also continues to produce consistent performances with a 1st in the U17 Iron-person, 2nd in the U17 Male Ski & 3rd in the U17 Male Surf. He also got 2nd in the Open Iron-person.

Beau Wheeler got 2nd in the U19 Male Surf & a 3rd in the U19 Iron-person.

Jamie Brinkworth, Sean White, Emma Lockhart & Carly Fagerstrom also put in a solid day of racing in their respective events.

Our younger girls (U15's) went really well & all of them loved it - good competition - enjoyed the experience and will be back for more next year. Kiah Taylor (U14), Bridgette Lockhart & Emma Brown all made the board final and put in some top efforts in the swim & iron-person.
