SLSI Branch Championships cancelled for 2020

Unfortunately due to the dangerous weather (heavy rainfall) & large surf conditions the 2020 Branch Championships have been cancelled for the season.

A couple of weekends were looked at as back up but also conditions were not kind to host the championships.

2020 ASRL Championships & Trans Tasman Boat Test Series

Congratulations to our 4 crews that raced over the past 3 days at the 2020 Australian Surf Rowers League @ Mollymook.

Rowed strong & didn't let the maroon and gold cap down👍

🥈2nd place 240yrs Vet Men
🥈2nd place Open Men

🎖semi final reserve women
🎖quarter final u19 men

Open Men lead the final from a middle alley, wave gods didn't produce & Lorne in alley 1 picked up a good wave to take them to victory. Congrats to Corrimal placing 3rd...how good 2 Illawarra crews in the final.

Our Reserve Women finished 4th in their semi ...on a 'party wave' ...5 crews & the girls placed 4th...inches in it.

Our U19 boys just missed out with a close 3rd in their quarter final...inches again.

Looking good for state titles coming up in 3 weeks.

And not forgetting our Open Men representing AUSTRALIA in the Trans Tasman Test Series...3 races for 3 victories.

2020 George Bass Surf Boat Marathon - cancelled

After 2 days of racing in the 2020 George Bass Surf Boat Marathon, the organising committee has made the right decision in cancelling the event due to the bush fires on the South Coast.

People have lost family members & properties, so very sad & our condolences go to everybody affected.

Just to let everybody know TEAM BULLI is safe at Bermagui camp site right beside the surf club.

Updated information from the GB committee plus NSW alert messages are being received. The team travelled safety home on New Years Day.

For the record Open Men’s crew had won both days & Lachlan O’Grady also had achieved the same in the Ski.

To everybody on the far south coast please stay safe & listen to all directives from authorities.

R.I.P Life Member Raymond Meredith

It is with a heavy heart that we inform you Ray Meredith (80 years of age), Life Member of Bulli Surf Life Saving Club Inc.has sadly passed away last Friday night (13 December).

Ray obtained his Bronze in 56/57. Ray competed in the boat section of the club winning Illawarra Open & Reserve Grade titles. Ray held positions of Chief First Aid Officer, Club delegate to Illawarra meetings, Assistant Secretary, Boat Captain & Deputy President.

School teacher, discipline was his thing, funny bugger telling stories, could entertain a crowd with a few untruths. Ray had a rich history with the George Bass Surf Boat Marathon, was living in Eden with his lovely wife Jo. We are all certain that Ray is in a better place now, he was battling a few illnesses in recent times.

Mounties RLFC put through their paces just prior to Xmas @ Bulli Beach

Saturday, 14 December 2020 saw a visit from Mounties RLFC (feeder club to the Canberra Raiders).

50+ guys & girls were put through their paces on the sand, grass, pool & surf early morning by members Matthew Freeman, Scott Ashcroft, Lachlan O'Grady, Ryan Powell & Tracey (Soul Fit).

This is the 2nd year of our partnership with Mounties RLFC...thankyou for picking Bulli Surf Life Saving Club.

Soft sand, wading in surf, footy players, larger bodies = hurting big time😁

Bulli puts on big show in December - well done to our members

Well we did it & we did good😎

Wow what a big 2 weeks of major events at our beach.

Firstly can I say the effort & commitment by our members was nothing short of sensational.

To have the final round of Sydney Water & then Nutri Grain on one weekend was big (2 extra days of set up for Nutri Grain), but to then host the NSW Inter branch championships last weekend topped it off.

Yes we knew it was going to be busy, we knew it was going to be stressful, but we knew we had the leaders with skills to pull it off. Those that assisted stood up & really showed the Bulli club spirit (new members included👍)....it is a culture that has been built over many many years!

So many positive comments from the Sydney Water Committee, SLSNSW & SLSA plus of course visiting clubbies couldn't believe how well we can run a carnival, from patrols, work force, water safety including IRB's & RWC's, BBQ, catering for officials....it all stood out for people to see.

It was great to showcase our club premises as well with the new extensions.

To say I'm one proud President is an understatement.

Well done, congratulations....👏

Yours in Surfing
Keith Caldwell @ Cocky

Stronger Communities Grant - thank you Sharon Bird MP

An early Xmas present..🎅..our club has been successful in obtaining funding through the 2019 Stronger Communities Program Grant👍. This grant is available through the Australian Government Department of Industry, Innovation & Science.

Massive thank you to our local Federal member, the Hon Sharon Bird MP for her support with this grant.... as a club we have to fund 50%...so we thank Sharon for the amount of $7,187 which will be used to purchase a new inflatable rescue boat (IRB).

It will replace one of our older IRB's but we will still have 2 fully operational IRB's for our lifesaving duties.

BULLI SLSC hosts a great round of the Kellogg's Nutri Grain Iron Person Series in Dec

Thankyou Surf Life Saving Australia for having the faith in our club to host a round of the Nutri Grain Ironman Ironwoman Series.

To Wayne Drury (General Manager Surf Sports SLSA) & Tony Henderson (Surf Sports Event Manager SLSA) our members really appreciated you addressing our members on Sunday evening.

To our members nothing short of sensational, our club is strong in all aspects but to see members coming down to support our efforts in set up of venue, lifesaving & patrols, workforce, BBQ duties, feeding the officials…it was top shelf volunteering at its best!

RIP Ray Bromley (80 Years of age)

Sad news that Ray passed away last Friday night after a battle with cancer.

Condolences to his wife Helen & family

Ray was a 60 year long service member of the club, talented swimmer winning State/National Masters medals. Ray was also a long time member of Bulli Sea Lions Winter Swimming Club.

Known as Brom or 'shark bait' you would see Ray enter the surf on any given day, swim out to Peggy's (reef northern end of beach) then head south to Woonona Point, then return to Peggy''s, back to the beach....loved his swimming.

Celebration of Ray's life will be on Wednesday 7th August 12 midday at Parsons Funeral Home Princes Highway Bulli.
