100th Year Book - Orders required now!
Recently we held our 100th year celebrations in October 2012 with a big 3 days of activities, the main function being a formal luncheon at Panorama House Bulli Tops where 250 guests relived great times as members of the club. Bulli SLSC has employed a local author to write a story about the history of the club as this season is our 100th birthday (13 February 2013). Our 100th Year committee have been working hard and are working through the finishing touches to the book and are hoping to have it available in the not to distant future, on our birthday would be nice. If any person wishes to order a copy of the book we need to know ASAP. Cost $50. Please contact Keith Caldwell mkcaldwell@bigpond.com to express an interest in purchasing a copy of the book and payment arrangements.
Xmas Day Swim Results - Caldwell wins!
Well what a different day from last Sunday......Sunday 23 Dec perfect sunny day......Sunday 25 Dec Xmas Day cold wet and 43 mad members & friends turn up to swim in the annual club Xmas Day Handicap Swim.
All ranges of members were there with nipper kids, junior parents, vet rowers & sweeps, surf/craft athletes including masters, open & U19 rowers (both full crews with sweeps). Our biggest numbers were in the veterans class (maybe trying to clear the head from the night before) with 18 starters. Noel Freeman lined up for his 42 consecutive swim & it really showed (ha ha).
The winner...Jamie Caldwell apparently has been doing some secret training at Oak Flats pool to keep himself fit in is daily job as the Head Supervisor of Kiama Lifeguards. He held off Tobias Lunney, who was trying to keep it in the family with his older brother Iszak winning the event last year.
We truely had an international flavour this year with current members from Canada & France swimming plus former ironman Ben Allen & his girlfriend Jackie Slack (England) also swimming.
A few celebrationary drinks back in the club rooms with a few prizes handed out by Santa President Keith Caldwell to start everybody's Xmas Day.
Overall;
1st Jamie Caldwell
2nd Tobias Lunney
3rd Calvin Richards
Vets;
1st Darren Nicholls

1st Calvin Richards
U15- U17;
1st Tobias Lunney

100 year celebrations
Well our 100 year celebrations went off sensationally over the weekend of 12/13/14 October.
Friday night "Meet & Greet" drinks at Bulli Workers Club with over 150 former & current members re-living the glory days of our great club.
Saturday Lunch was our "Official Lucheon" with close to 250 people in attendance to celebrate our history. With speeches kept to a minimum, it was a great chance for all to mingle & mix with former & current members in a great relaxed social atmosphere at Panorama House Bulli Tops. What a great location looking over the northern suburbs of Illawarra, in particular Bulli Surf Life Saving Club & our beach.
Saturday night Bulli Workers Club had the 'house full' sign up with people partying well into the evening.
Sunday down at the beach & a recovery BBQ was on the agenda and some of our rookie lifesavers (U13-U17) put on a demonstration of old events such as chariot race, wheelbarrow race & round the pole race to entertain the crowd.
This club has had so many passionate people in their respective eras who have shed some blood sweat & tears, not only management committee members, but patrolling & surf sports members.
Heaps of memories, heaps of photos & memorabilia on display.
Members over the 100 years have been acknowledged & recognised with meritorious & bravery awards in lifesaving & rescue situations, granted life membership, won branch, state & national awards for education, lifesaving, member development, administration & surf sports achievements, won medals (now known as surf sports) at branch, state, national & on the world stage.

Dawson, Taylor & Taylor win Aussie Pool Rescue medals
Three young Bulli Surf Life Saving girls come away with a swag of medals and Australian records to boot at last weekend’s 2012 Surf Life Saving Australia Pool Rescue Championships held in Adelaide.
More than 400 entrants from 48 Surf Life Saving Clubs around Australia and a Development Team from NZ contested the championships. There were 180 competitors racing in the Under 12’s, 13’s and 14s categories and this included the Bulli trio of Abbey Dawson (U14), Kiah Taylor (U14) & Mali Taylor (U13).
Abbey Dawson was the star with 3 gold medals all in Australian record time in the U14 Female 50m Manikin Carry (41.11), U14 Female 100m Manikin Tow with fins (1:08.46) & U14 Female 50m Freestyle with fins (22.99). Kiah Taylor took home two bronze medals in the U14 Female Manikin Carry and teamed with Abbey to place 3rd in the U14 Female Line Throw. Mali Taylor produced her piece of gold in the U13 Female 50m Brick Carry with an Australian record time of 35.08, she also placed a close 4th in two other events.
The younger age categories have been introduced for the first time this year to encourage greater participation in pool rescue completion and develop pool-specific skills amongst these younger members.
Graham Ford, President of Surf Life Saving Australia is excited about the introduction of the junior racing in the pool. “It’s fantastic to see that these young members are given the opportunity to commence pool rescue competition from so early on. Not only does this mean that they have access to our sports development pathways, it also means we - Australia - have the potential to produce surf lifesavers with broader skill sets that extend beyond the beach.”
